For the manner in which men live is so different from the way in which they ought to live, that he who leaves the common course for that which he ought to follow will find that it leads him to ruin rather than safety.

Random Knifey Stuff

My day job has me hopping like a one legged man in an ass kicking contest. Luckily I'm getting better at utilizing my time to work on projects.

Thought I'd make a keychain shaped like a cleaver.

A friend of a friend saw my little cleaver and asked to buy one...so now there's two. They'll have cherry scales and brass rivets when they're done.

The top is a paring knife made from my original pattern. This pattern is prone to warping during heat treating. I changed the shape of the handle to take a little metal out of it and control the warpage, bottom.

Today's efforts. Handles roughed out onto three blades; new style paring knife and a thin chef's knife post heat treat. Also, I heat treated the keychain cleavers.

The last of my old pattern paring knives all done...save for final finishing. It needs shellac and wax yet.

What a difference this has made!!!! A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a band saw. Having a metal cutting band saw is a game changer. Before now, I've been using a hack saw or cutting at work. Hack saws wear me out, and I don't like taking personal jobs to work. It's so nice to cut blanks out on a small band saw. In only a few minutes I'm ready for final shaping and bevel grinding.
More one these later. I decided that building a couple of kits would be a good way to learn about folding knives. I'll try and do a step by step when I put these together. The left is a liner lock, the right is a lock back.

  1. I wonder if you could get the cleaver through security at the airport.
